Utah Housing Affordability Research
For two years, we studied why some Utah housing bills succeed and others fail. Using game theory and a research method called Map the System, we built a clear rule: when a law removes a city's control over housing decisions, it only works if the city keeps some other way to have a say.
We tested this rule against real Utah bills, including HB82, HB88, HB90, and HB184. We presented these findings at the UVU real estate gala, alongside co-presenter Wyatt Richards and faculty advisor Dr. David Benson. We're now preparing a policy brief for the Utah Governor's Office housing strategy team.
